Guide Mendeley

Mendeley is a program that can easily store your information sources. You can also add notes or the full text if you like. You can put your information sources into folders and share these folders with other people. You can tag each source with keywords so you can easily find your sources in Mendeley. In short, you can create your own digital 'library' with your own structure.

Elearning handleiding Mendeley

CurCol -Twin screw Extrusion

The polymer pellets are mixed with the curcumin-based colorant and is fed through the feeder gradually. The feed then moves through the barrel which has four zones of heating (feeding zone (zone 1), zone 2, zone 3, and zone 4 (die)). These zones are pre-heated at temperatures suitable to the polymer used. For eg. PLA would require temperatures of 160/170/180/200 ⁰C (feeder to die). The polymer mix is melted and blended with the colorant and extrudate is produced from the die. Here the die used is a filament die and hence filament is extruded over to the conveyor belt which is air-cooled.

CurCol: Curcumine-based colours. A sustainable alternative for a fossil free world.

The Interreg NWE project CurCol demonstrates economic potential for the production chains from regionally produced plants to colourants in packaging. The project assesses three pilots for colourant production and application in plastic and paper packaging, by defining barriers, business cases and action plans. The focus of CurCol is the yellow natural colourant Curcumine

CurCol - Blow fil extrusion

The masterbatch of the polymer and the colorant prepared by extrusion is used as the feed for the blow film extrusion. It is fed through the feeder which passes through the screw barrel which is pre-heated similar to the extrusion temperature of the polymer to melt. The melted polymer from the barrel then moves to the blow die which is pre-heated as well and the blower is switched on to blow the melted polymer mix as blown films as we see here. The blower ring can be increased or decreased as per the width we require for the film. The blown film passed upwards over the roll to cool off and is collected.

Biobased Construction: Straw & Reed

Straw is a renewable material offering good thermal insulation properties and a much lower environmental impact than many current mainstream construction materials. Straw bale is very suitable as infill insulation for timberframe buildings with either an external render or timber rainscreen finish. Straw provides a vapour-permeable wall construction using a locally sourced, low-impact material, although it does need careful detailing and construction to avoid the ingress and retention of moisture.

From Grass to Product - preservation and preparation of natural cuttings.

There is a demand from agriculture for cuttings that can be used as animal feed. To do this the cuttings must be of sufficient quality and be fresh or properly stored. Practice shows that natural cuttings often do not contain enough energy or the right proteins to serve as animal feed. In addition, the cuttings can also be poorly digestible or contain poisonous plants. Multiple applications are possible due to the storage and preparation of clippings.
